GNS’s Weatherization Staff

Great Northern Services’ Weatherization Program makes permanent upgrades to homes all over Siskiyou County to make them safer, warmer, and more energy efficient. Renters and owners living in houses, apartments, and manufactured or mobile homes can receive assistance.

New: apply online!
Fill out and submit an application for Energy Assistance & Weatherization, upload the necessary documentation, and submit a digital signature.

Request an application online, or call (530) 938-4115 ext. 120

Q. Is there any cost to the renter or owner?
A. No, all weatherization services are at no cost to eligible homeowners, renters or their landlords.

Q. Is the income qualification based on my landlord’s income?
A. No, the home is qualified based on the tenant’s income. Income limits are listed in the instruction packet.

Q. Can renters get weatherization services?
A. Yes, renters can receive services.  There is no cost to the property owner but their permission is required and they have to agree to the terms & conditions of the program. These forms are included in the application packet.

Q. How long does it take to get service?
A. GNS is required to serve low income and vulnerable populations based on their need and several other criteria. The evaluation of those criteria, as well as the availability of funding, determines how soon a client is served. It can take several months to a year and a half to receive services.

Q. My only heat source is broken. Can you fix it?
A. GNS may have funding available through an Energy Crisis Intervention Program. If your only permanent heat source or your hot water heater malfunctions or becomes a safety hazard, contact our Weatherization Administration Assistant at (530)938-4115 ext 127 to discuss the situation.

Q. How often can I apply?
A. Apply every calendar year until you receive services.

Q. What services are provided?
A. The program can repair and replace exterior doors, windows, and certain appliances and install floor and ceiling insulation. Additional energy efficiency measures are also available, as well as diagnostic testing of heaters and fuel-burning appliances for the safety of the occupants. The program does not repair roofs.

Q. How do I apply for weatherization services?
A. Call our Weatherization staff at (530) 938-4115 Ext. 127 or request weatherization services when completing an energy assistance application.  The same application allows you to apply for both programs. If you recently applied for Energy Assistance and did not indicate that you would like to be considered for Weatherization Services, give us a call and we can update your application.

Weatherization

I am so impressed with the work and the workers. I have never seen a group of people in such harmony. The work is exceptional and the guys were wonderful. They worked hard and they were so kind.
—Melanie G.

Weatherization

I used to own a construction company in Michigan. I give the GNS Weatherization Crew an excellent score. They did a great job and cleaned as they went along. We’ve been freezing since last October and now we’re not.
—Naida H. in Yreka

Home Weatherization

“Thanks so much for the weatherization of my home. What a wonderful service that is to have in our area! The fellows were very friendly and neat. They are a huge asset to your company.”
— Sharon Young, Yreka

Home Weatherization

“We’re looking forward to winter now that we have the insulation in the attic. We can’t sing enough praises for the GNS staff.”
— Jim and Mary Taylor, Weed

Weatherization

Weatherization on my apartment made quite a difference—I don’t even use the heater in the bedroom anymore, just the main room on the lowest setting. We’re near the river and we could always hear the train, but after GNS put in double pane windows and insulation it cut out all the noise. I’d gotten used to it after so many years in the apartment, now I wake up in the middle of the night because it’s too quiet.

Weatherization

Do you know that this winter there was not a speck of moisture on the inside of the windows? I used to have to put towels down because when you opened the curtains in the morning there was frost all over the inside. The towels would catch it when it melted. But with the new windows the Weatherization department installed, now you can’t feel any cold air coming in.
