In case, you have been hearing about our work with JEDI out in the south county community regarding planning for a sustainable community commercial kitchen, here’s a little update.
The closure of the Siskiyou Harvest commercial kitchen in Yreka left a hole for some local food producers who are growing their product businesses. At the same time, there was talk amongst some private businesses in the south county wanting to make use of a similar facility if it were located closer. We initiated and completed a survey with 100 respondents that generated LOTS of ideas about the concept. Some who took the survey had an interest in doing the planning work necessary to making a kitchen concept a reality.
Nancy Swift from JEDI and our GNS team are hosting and facilitating a series of meetings for this group.
Here are some notes from our first planning meeting held April 24, 2014.
