GNS is proud to have conducted a Community Food Assessment that looks specifically at issues related to access to healthy food and community driven projects to address those issues.
Through a matching grant from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and generous support from community members, the Family Resource Centers and partnering agencies, GNS has completed the one-year activity.
The first phase of the Community Food Assessment was an extensive survey that asked questions about food access, cooking and eating habits and economic concerns. This survey was distributed online and by Family and Community Resource Centers across the county, which generated 886 responses! The survey questionnaire can be viewed here. Results are summarized in a CFAExecutiveSummary.
Community members, organizations, agencies and others are welcome to use the Siskiyou CFA Final Data Tables to assist their activities and funding development. For assistance with the full survey results document, email Renee Casterline at rcasterline[at]gnccorp.org.
Phase two of the CFA was a series of Community Food Conversations at four locations in the county. A county wide Wrap Up Event was held at College of the Siskiyous in November 2013. Community members came out discuss resources, opportunities and challenges and then united around prioritized projects.
