Housing Rehabilitation Funds are currently available for projects within the Weed city limits. The program may be available in different jurisdictions at later dates, depending on future grants acquired by those jurisdictions through the State of California.
For more than 30 years GNS has administered all the Housing and Community Development grants in Siskiyou County. Our services include writing and overseeing grants awarded for housing rehabilitation of sub-standard homes occupied by low income residents. Our staff includes a licensed contractor (CA lic. #629328) specialized in Public Works Projects, Environmental Reviews, Weatherization, Community Facility Rehabilitation, and Prevailing Wage Certification. GNS has successfully completed over 300 homes within the jurisdictions that make the program available.

A. A program that provides major & minor repairs to owner-occupied homes or rental units of low wealth households.

Q. Does every city in the county have a housing rehabilitation program?
A. No, only if the city or county has an open grant through the State of California.
Q. Is this grant money to the homeowner?
A. No, these are below market interest loans. Grants may be available for lead based paint and asbestos abatement.
Q. Who determines the interest rate and payment terms?
A. A locally appointed loan committee.
Q. What if my income changes?
A. The loan committee may make changes upon review. Communication by the property owner is very important. (Payments cannot increase)
Q. As a renter, can I apply?
A. No, the property owner has to apply and the renter has to qualify. The Federal Government sets an income limit for the renter that may make the property eligible.
