GNS operates an Economic Development Business Loan and Grant Program that is available in specific Siskiyou County jurisdictions. These loans and grants are intended to create and expand local businesses, and/or strengthen their capacity.
Each jurisdiction has their own program guidelines for loan and grant approval. In the last 18 years GNS has successfully secured over 112 business loan and/or grant applications in the amount of $8.85 million from the California Housing and Community Development in EDBG and Over The Counter (OTC) loans, resulting in over 390 jobs at a cost of $35,000 per loan.
CDBG Business Loan Programs
We couple innovative individuals with money from the federal government to generate jobs and tax revenue for our communities.
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a federally funded grant program that was established by the Housing and Community Development Act (HCDA) of 1974. Great Northern Services administers the CDBG funds for local jurisdictions that have received awards. The cities of Etna, Mt. Shasta, and Montague currently have funding for Economic Development.

GNS Loan Program
Great Northern Services administers the USDA Rural Micro-Entrepreneur Assistance Program (RMAP) in Siskiyou County. The program provides access to capital to eligible businesses located in Siskiyou County that have ten or fewer full-time equivalent (FTE) employees. Each application will be considered on the basis of the company’s unique financial needs. The maximum loan amount is $50,000.

We received a RMAP loan which gave us the funds to build a kitchen and expand the business. We also added lodging in the back—the only lodging in Fort Jones at that time.
